Strengthening Community Health Through Partnership
Location: Mezam Division, North West Region
In a rural community with limited access to health information, WA partnered with local health workers and community leaders to deliver HIV awareness, prevention, and testing campaigns. Community volunteers were trained to organise outreach sessions, provide accurate health information, and connect residents with nearby health facilities.
Among those reached was John, a young father who had never previously accessed HIV testing services. After participating in one of the outreach sessions, he voluntarily tested, received counselling, and has since become an advocate for regular testing and health education within his village.
The initiative also strengthened collaboration between community structures and local health providers, improving access to accurate information while encouraging healthier behaviours through peer education.
Impact
- Increased community awareness of HIV prevention and testing.
- Improved linkage between communities and local health services.
- Community members empowered to promote healthier behaviours through peer education.
